The mother of the Harry Potter series has always been vocal about her depression in her early days of writing. She has addressed the issue many times and is very open about her battle with depression. She’s proud to say that she overcame it and she’s extremely active in raising awareness about mental disorders.
2. Lady Gaga
Behind all the glamor and glitz, lies the terrible struggles of this pop icon, In 2012, she started a Born This Way foundation to help those suffering from depression and other mental disorders. Lady Gaga has mentioned that it was a dark time in her and now she wants to help people facing similar problems.
3. Gwyeneth Paltrow
Iron Man actress Gwyneth Paltrow remembered how she felt like after giving birth to her son, Moses. She felt numb and couldn’t access her emotions. Her husband took her to therapy after figuring out she suffered from post-partum depression.
4. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
The Rock admitted that he suffered from depression in his 20s. He was then a footballer trying to make it into the high leagues but he couldn’t get selected by the NFL. His career seemed to be at an all-time low and he lived in his parents’ basement. The Rock also mentioned that he had to battle the black dog for months until he started training as a wrestler. Now, he’s unstoppable.

The Camp Rock actress and singer made headlines when she checked into a rehab center for her mental health issues. She was diagnosed not only with depression but also bipolar disorder and anorexia. Demi came out saying she was indulging in self-harm behavior and had to do something about it. Currently, she’s winning at life and creating beautiful music.

Another Disney alum also checked into rehab in late 2016 and was announced to be suffering from depression. She was being treated in a rehab center away from the limelight and she made a magical recovery. She’s been healthy ever since.

In the late 90s, Ellen came out as gay for the first time. She had to experience a lot of backlash from the industry and her sitcom was canceled as well. She was undergoing a lot of stress on the professional front due to which she developed depression. In 2003, she got the part of Dory in Finding Nemo and that’s when things picked up for her.
